Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA) Tuesday reported a significant drop in passenger numbers during the month of July, with a total of 952,177, 7.5 percent down from the same month in 2023, and owed the downtrend to the ongoing Israeli war on the Gaza Strip. Flight movements at QAIA also fell by 6.8 percent, 7,592 in total, but air cargo handling soared, with 6,924 tons processed, 32.1 percent up from last year, according to a statement from the Airport International Group (AIG), which operates the airport. Year-to-date figures reveal a 5.1 percent decrease in passenger traffic, totaling 5,104,710, compared to the same period of 2023. Aircraft movements have also declined by 5.0 percent, reaching 43,154. Nevertheless, air cargo volumes increased by 24.7 percent to 45,348 tons. AIG CEO Nicolas Deviller acknowledged the adverse repercussions of the Gaza war on air traffic and tourism flows, adding that despite these setbacks, AIG remains focused on expanding its airline networks and introducing new dire ct routes to bolster tourism and cater to diverse traveler needs.
