Geneva: A Senate delegation participated in the consultative coordination meeting of the Arab Group at the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) on the sidelines of the 149th IPU Assembly in Geneva. According to Jordan News Agency, discussions at the meeting centered around the emergency item submitted by Palestine and Algeria, which pertained to the implementation of UN General Assembly resolution concerning Israeli accountability and legislative measures. The resolution, identified as "24/10A/RES/ES," mandates Israel's parliament to provide monthly reports on its legislative actions to implement the resolution, outlining consequences for non-compliance. Senator Mahasen Jaghoub, head of the Senate's Education Committee, voiced serious concerns at the 81st IPU Middle East Questions meeting about the deteriorating situation in the region. She criticized the global inaction over Israel's actions against Palestinian people, which she termed as genocide, stating that such silence erodes respect for international law. Highlighting the crucial need for peace and security in the region, Jaghoub stressed that these goals cannot be achieved without acknowledging the Palestinians' right to an independent state. She further commended the Hashemite guardianship for its role in protecting Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, maintaining the city's Arab identity, and countering Israeli Judaization efforts. Additionally, the Education Committee urged IPU member states to apply pressure to enforce UN resolutions effectively. They advocated for an end to the occupation and the establishment of a Palestinian state within the 1967 borders. The meeting also reiterated Jordan's firm stance against aggressions from Israel and its key supporters, including the U.S. and EU.
