DUBAI: Mohammed Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs and Co-Chair of the Global Future Councils, alongside Professor Klaus Schwab, Founder and chairman of the board of trustees of the World Economic Forum (WEF), inaugurated the 2024 Annual Meeting of Global Future Councils (AMGFC24) today. The event, attended by key figures such as H.H. Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and H.H. Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, saw leaders urging the global community to adopt agility and innovative strategies for a sustainable future. According to Emirates News Agency, the AMGFC24, hosted by the UAE Government in cooperation with WEF from 15-17 October in Dubai, brings together experts and leaders from 80 countries. Discussions aim to influence the 2025 WEF Annual Meeting in Davos, focusing on economic, geopolitical, social, and environmental issues. Al Gergawi emphasized the importance of adaptability in his opening remarks, stating, "The primary measure of success for countrie s, societies, and individuals is their agility and ability to adapt." Al Gergawi cited significant progress in global economic output and poverty reduction, juxtaposed with geopolitical tensions and challenges in digital inclusivity. He highlighted the economic benefits of sustainability, noting the creation of over 13 million jobs in the renewable energy sector and the valuation of the green economy at over US$7 trillion. Professor Schwab also addressed the assembly, stressing the importance of maintaining hope and optimism in the face of a shifting global order. He highlighted the interconnectedness of political, economic, social, environmental, and technological issues, urging collaborative efforts to design a hopeful future. The WEF's Global Future Councils serve as a major knowledge network, promoting transformative ideas to shape a more resilient and inclusive global future.
