New Members Join Judging Panel for 2025 Zayed Award for Human Fraternity

ABU DHABI: The Zayed Award for Human Fraternity has unveiled its new judging committee for the 2025 edition, featuring prominent global figures from multiple sectors. According to Emirates News Agency, the newly appointed members of the committee include former President of Senegal Macky Sall; former Prime Minister of Spain José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero; Director-General of the World Trade Organisation Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala; Cardinal Peter Kodwo Appiah Turkson, Chancellor of both the Pontifical Academy of Sciences and the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences; and the Right Honorable Patricia Scotland KC, Secretary-General of the Commonwealth. This diverse group, representing six countries, brings a wealth of experience from the fields of diplomacy, economics, science, peacebuilding, and law. The committee is tasked with selecting the honorees for the sixth edition of the Zayed Award for Human Fraternity. This international recognition celebrates individuals and organizations worldwide that contribute sign ificantly to solidarity, integrity, fairness, and optimism, fostering peaceful coexistence. The award, which carries a prize of US$1 million, honors the legacy of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founding father of the United Arab Emirates, emphasizing his leadership and humanitarian efforts. Since its inception in 2019, following the historic signing of the Document on Human Fraternity by Pope Francis and Grand Imam Ahmed Al-Tayeb, the award has recognized contributors from eleven different countries. These honorees have made substantial impacts in various sectors, including healthcare, education, community development, refugee resettlement, and the empowerment of women and youth. The selection process for the 2025 award will conclude with a ceremony in February, aligning with the International Day of Human Fraternity. This day commemorates the anniversary of the signing of the Document on Human Fraternity, promoting the values of tolerance and coexistence.
