SHARJAH: Sharjah Museums Authority (SMA) is set to host a conference titled 'SAWA: A Decade of Cross-Cultural Museum Learning' from November 4th to 5th, 2024. The event marks a significant milestone for the SAWA Museum Studies Programme, a decade-long collaboration involving SMA, the Berlin State Museums, the Goethe-Institute Gulf Region, and the University of Applied Sciences Berlin. This hybrid conference will be held both in-person at the Sharjah Archaeology Museum and online to accommodate a global audience. According to Emirates News Agency, the conference is organized in partnership with Crescent Group and the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority, celebrating SAWA's achievements in cultural exchange and education. Supported by the Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany Dubai, the event underscores the strong cultural ties between the UAE and Germany. This collaboration aims to enhance museum learning and cross-cultural dialogue. The SAWA Conference will provide a platform f or discussions on key concepts from the SAWA curriculum and offer networking opportunities for museum professionals. Over the years, the programme has equipped participants with essential skills for the museum sector and contributed to broader cultural diplomacy goals, bridging Sharjah and Berlin through shared knowledge and experiences. The conference will feature keynote speeches from Sheikh Fahim AlQasimi, who will discuss the role of museums in Sharjah and the importance of international relations, and H.E. Aisha Deemas, who will address the growth and future of the SAWA programme. Sybille Pfaff, Consul General of Germany in Dubai, will emphasize the significance of international collaborations in cultural exchanges. Morning sessions will include discussions by local and international experts on the impact of international cooperation on museum standards and professional development. Topics such as audience engagement, exhibition curation, and museum display strategies will be explored. The conference w ill conclude with a panel discussion on the challenges and aspirations of achieving impact in the cultural sector.
