DUBAI: H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai and President of the UAE National Olympic Committee, welcomed participants to the 38th International Federation of Sports Medicine World Congress of Sports Medicine, emphasizing the UAE's role in advancing global scientific forums. The four-day event, held at the Dubai World Trade Centre, seeks to enhance athletes' health and well-being through expert discussions and innovative solutions. According to Emirates News Agency, Sheikh Ahmed underscored the importance of world-class venues and infrastructure in the UAE, which contribute to shaping long-term strategies that improve global quality of life. The congress will feature elite sports medicine practitioners from various disciplines, including orthopaedic surgery, physiotherapy, and sports nutrition, to explore new dimensions in athletes' physical and mental care. Sheikh Ahmed highlighted the necessity of maintaining high standards in medical care to support athletes' performance at international events. This commitment to excellence is driven by adherence to scientific wisdom and best practices, which serve as a legacy resource for researchers and specialists, fostering innovation and expertise exchange. Organized under Sheikh Ahmed's patronage by the UAE National Olympic Committee and co-hosted by entities such as the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism, the congress includes 16 sessions, 130 speakers, and 304 research papers. Representatives from over 70 countries will participate in discussions on diverse topics, including sports science, injury management, and anti-doping. The congress will commence with a panel discussion on "The Future of Sports Medicine and Sports Science in the GCC," followed by lectures on physical inactivity and self-regulation. Sessions will delve into areas like biomechanics, pain management, and the use of technology in enhancing sports performance. Workshops on "New Trends in Sports Rehabilitation" and care for para-athletes will als o be offered. Additionally, the event will introduce the Young Researcher Award in Sports Medicine and Sports Performance, a national initiative encouraging young professionals to pursue research and contribute to the field's advancement.
