CAIRO: The United Arab Emirates has been elected to lead the Arab Parliament, with Mohammed Ahmad Al Yamahi, a member of the Federal National Council, assuming the presidency during the procedural session of the fourth legislative term. The session took place at the Arab League headquarters in Cairo, Egypt, marking a significant return to leadership for the UAE, which previously held the presidency from 2012 to 2016. According to Emirates News Agency, the UAE's leadership in the Arab Parliament reflects its longstanding commitment to parliamentary diplomacy and active participation in the Arab Parliament's initiatives since its inception. Al Yamahi, in his statement, attributed this achievement to the support of the UAE's leadership, particularly President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President and Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and Vice President Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan. These leaders have been instrumental in empowering Emiratis to occupy significa nt roles in Arab, regional, and international organizations. During the procedural session, the UAE, through its Federal National Council Parliamentary Division, also highlighted its previous roles within the Arab Parliament, including its election as Deputy President in 2020. Members of the division have chaired committees on Financial and Economic Affairs as well as Social, Educational, Cultural, Women, and Youth Affairs. This latest election further solidifies the UAE's influence and contributions to the Arab Parliament's governance and decision-making processes.
