MARRAKESH: The sixth Moroccan Poetry Festival commenced in Marrakesh, with the event receiving patronage from H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi of Sharjah and King Mohammed VI of Morocco. The festival, organized by the House of Poetry in Marrakesh in collaboration with the Department of Culture in Sharjah and Morocco's Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication, will span three days, featuring over 30 Moroccan poets, artists, and intellectuals. According to Emirates News Agency, the festival's opening ceremony took place at the historic Cyber Park Arsat Moulay Abdesalam, drawing a considerable audience of literary enthusiasts. Key attendees included Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Owais, Head of the Department of Culture in Sharjah; Mohammed Ibrahim Al Qaseer, Director of Cultural Affairs in Sharjah's Department of Culture; and Hisham Aboukari, representing Morocco's Minister of Youth, Culture, and Communication. The event highlights Marrakesh's designation as the Islamic World Cultural Capital for 2 024, emphasizing its cultural and historical significance. The ceremony began with an audio recording reflecting the past year's cultural and artistic endeavors as part of the House of Poetry's seventh season. In his address, Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Owais spoke on the importance of renewing poetic gatherings, recognizing their role in fostering creativity. He expressed gratitude towards Morocco's Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication for their support and conveyed greetings from the Ruler of Sharjah, wishing the festival success.
