Abu Dhabi: Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City (SSMC), a subsidiary of PureHealth, has announced a significant achievement, reaching the milestone of 500 robotic assisted surgeries since the introduction of its robotic surgery programme in 2020. The hospital has conducted over 200 of these surgeries in 2024 alone, reflecting a growing acceptance and confidence in this advanced surgical method. According to Emirates News Agency, the global use of intuitive robotic systems has surpassed 12 million procedures. Dr. Salem Al Harthi, consultant and chair of the Department of Surgery at SSMC, highlighted the precision and control offered by robotic assisted surgery, which allows for highly intricate procedures. He attributed the programme's growth to the team's commitment to ongoing training and technological advancement, which keeps the hospital at the forefront of surgical innovation. Dr. Abdulqader Almessabi, acting chief medical officer at SSMC, remarked on the revolutionary impact of robotic assisted surgery on pat ient care, not just at SSMC but globally. He emphasized the importance of continuous improvement and learning in setting new standards for surgical excellence.
