Ashgabat: Turkmenistan and China commenced the expansion of the Galkynysh gas field, a significant step in boosting production capabilities at one of the world's largest gas fields. This joint venture marks a continued collaboration between the two nations in the energy sector.
According to Emirates News Agency, Turkmenistan, which ranks fourth globally in terms of gas reserves, has been a major supplier to China since 2009. This partnership was facilitated by the opening of the Central Asia-China pipeline, through which Turkmenistan exports nearly all of its gas production to China.
The Galkynysh gas field, strategically located in the Karakum desert approximately 400 kilometers east of Ashgabat, has been operational since 2013. It is recognized as the world's second-largest gas field by the British consulting firm GaffneyCline. The expansion project is being executed by the China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), a state-owned enterprise, underscoring the ongoing collaboration between Turkmenistan and China in the energy domain.
