Strasbourg: Saqr Ghobash, Speaker of the Federal National Council (FNC), met with Fran§ois-Xavier Bellamy, Vice-Chair of the Group of the European People's Party in the European Parliament and Chair of the Delegation for relations with the Mashreq countries, to discuss strengthening parliamentary ties between the FNC and the European Parliament. The discussions aimed to expand UAE-European cooperation in security, development, energy, and technology.
According to Emirates News Agency, the meeting took place at the European Parliament headquarters in Strasbourg, France. During the meeting, Ghobash emphasized that the UAE considers its relationship with Europe a strategic partnership rooted in supporting stability, development, and moderation. He highlighted the direct repercussions that Middle Eastern crises and tensions have on Europe, particularly concerning energy, migration, security, maritime routes, and combating extremism.
Ghobash pointed out the UAE's role as a reliable partner in a region facing complex challenges. This reliability is attributed to the UAE's approach based on moderation, openness, and respect for state sovereignty. The UAE's ability to engage in dialogue and communication with varied parties, while maintaining a clear stance against extremist organizations, was stressed as vital for regional stability.
Moreover, Ghobash underscored that regional challenges now have direct implications for European and international security and stability. The expansion of militias and extremist groups, irregular migration, and threats to energy security and maritime routes are no longer confined to the region but have global impacts. He affirmed the UAE's support for the nation-state concept and legitimate institutions, emphasizing that state stability, national sovereignty, and strong constitutional institutions are crucial to countering terrorism and fostering development.
The discussion also touched on Iran's impact on regional stability. He highlighted the UAE's model of coexistence, based on cultural and religious respect, supported by strong institutions and a legal system that ensures protection for all.
Fran§ois-Xavier Bellamy lauded the UAE's role in promoting regional and international stability, recognizing its moderation, tolerance, and openness.
