Vienna: Austrian Foreign Minister Beate Meinl-Reisinger expressed concern over the expansion of the Israeli offensive in Lebanon and strongly condemned the announced attacks on Beirut.
According to Emirates News Agency, Meinl-Reisinger stated, "We strongly condemn the announcement of attacks on Beirut," emphasizing that such actions represent a serious violation of the ceasefire and serve as a further escalation of the conflict. Additionally, she reiterated the necessity to halt attacks against Israel and to disarm Hezbollah, identifying the group as the primary obstacle to peace and stability in Lebanon.
Meinl-Reisinger acknowledged the Lebanese government's recent stance, which distances itself from Hezbollah, labeling it as encouraging. She also highlighted the significance of direct dialogues between Lebanon and Israel and expressed gratitude towards the United States for its mediation efforts in this regard.
Furthermore, the Austrian Foreign Minister confirmed Austria's ongoing support for the Lebanese Armed Forces through diplomatic initiatives in collaboration with European Union partners, which include reallocating and increasing humanitarian assistance. She emphasized the importance of protecting the Lebanese population, mentioning the role of Austrian soldiers serving within the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) in promoting regional stability and security.
