Sultan bin Ahmed Chairs University of Sharjah Board of Trustees Meeting

Sharjah: H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and President of the University of Sharjah (UOS), chaired the University of Sharjah Board of Trustees meeting on Wednesday morning at his office on the university campus. At the outset of the meeting, the President of the University welcomed the new board members and expressed his appreciation to the previous board for their dedicated efforts in advancing the university across various fields.

According to Emirates News Agency, H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed praised the pivotal role of the previous board in the institution's progress and development, reaffirming his support for the current board and the insightful ideas and recommendations they will contribute. He expressed confidence that their vision would further support the university's growth and sustain its excellence at the academic, research, and institutional levels. He also highlighted the university's achievements, including strategic initiatives in artificial intelligence, robotics, healthcare simulation, and innovation.

H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed emphasized the need for intensified efforts to further develop the research ecosystem and modernize academic programmes to align with technological transformations. He underscored the importance of aligning educational outcomes with labour market needs, attracting distinguished academic talent, and expanding strategic partnerships. The university's operational budget for the 2026-2027 academic year, amounting to AED1.36 billion, was approved, along with the graduation of a new cohort of students totaling 1,927.

The board approved several new academic programmes, including PhDs in Nursing and Advanced Diagnostic Sciences, Master's in Nuclear Technology, Digital Corporate Communication, and Digital Media, and a Bachelor's in Psychology. The establishment of the University of Sharjah Robotics Centre and plans for an Innovation Centre in partnership with LG were also approved.

The board reviewed the updated EDGE Strategy for 2024-2030 and the plan to strengthen the university's research ecosystem. The promotion of 23 faculty members was approved for their outstanding contributions. A report by Prof. Esameldin Agamy highlighted the university's achievements, including progress in international rankings and the introduction of 49 newly accredited programmes during the 2025-2026 academic year.

The meeting also included reviews from specialised committees such as the Finance Committee, Internal Audit and Risk Management Committee, Emiratisation Committee, and Academic Committee. Attendees included prominent figures such as Dr. Mansour bin Nassar, Dr. Muhadditha Al Hashemi, Mohammed Abdullah, and several international scholars and experts.
