Abu Dhabi:Under the patronage of H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, the UAE has launched the global SAFE-T Initiative aimed at enhancing digital safety and participation through technology.

According to Emirates News Agency, the initiative is a collaborative effort between the General Women's Union, the Ministry of Justice, and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime. It was unveiled during the 15th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice in Abu Dhabi, with participation from ministers, UN officials, and representatives from various sectors.

H.H. Sheikha Fatima emphasized that while technology opens opportunities for women, it is crucial to create an environment that safeguards rights and privacy to fully harness these possibilities. She highlighted the challenges of technology-facilitated violence against women and girls, which affects their social and economic engagement.

She stressed the need for an integrated approach involving legislation development, awareness raising, and shared responsibility among governments and technology companies. Sheikha Fatima also mentioned the UAE's commitment to supporting women's roles in digital transformation and innovation.

The UAE's Cyber Pulse Initiative, which provides cybersecurity training for women, was highlighted as a successful model that has expanded internationally. Sheikha Fatima welcomed the SAFE-T Initiative, noting it offers a framework for addressing technology-facilitated violence and turning commitments into actionable solutions.

Noura Khalifa Al Suwaidi, Secretary-General of the General Women's Union, underscored the importance of international cooperation in creating a safe digital environment. The first phase of SAFE-T focuses on building infrastructure through the UN Women Strategy and other strategic models to bridge the digital divide and support victims.
