FANR Board Reviews Regulatory and Strategic Developments

Abu Dhabi:The Board of Management of the Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) reviewed significant regulatory updates and strategic initiatives during a recent meeting. These efforts aim to enhance operational efficiency and develop national capabilities within the nuclear sector.

According to Emirates News Agency, Hamad Al Kaabi, Director-General of FANR, briefed the board members on key regulatory operations and organizational developments. These include efforts to improve customer experience, the launch of the UAE's first National Environmental Radiation Measurements Portal, and the progress in developing national nuclear capabilities. He also highlighted FANR's international engagement and its upcoming participation in major global nuclear-related discussions and forums.

The Board received a status update on the operations of the four units of the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant and planned activities. FANR conducts regular inspections of the plant to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, ensuring safe and secure operations.

Updates were also provided on the latest research and development projects undertaken by FANR. These projects aim to support the enhancement of the UAE's nuclear and radiation regulatory framework, focusing on nuclear safety, radiation protection, environmental studies, emerging technologies, and cooperation with national and international partners. The Board reviewed progress in strengthening Emirati participation and applying research outcomes to support regulatory decision-making and readiness.

Additionally, the Board was briefed on FANR's Agentic AI Transformation Programme. This initiative supports the UAE Government's vision to accelerate digital transformation and utilize artificial intelligence to deliver efficient and future-ready government services. FANR is advancing the responsible adoption of Agentic AI across its procedures and operations, emphasizing governance, security, and human oversight.
