Accra:World Food Day The United Nations has called on nations to leverage data, innovation, and technology, including artificial intelligence, to ensure universal access to safe, nutritious, and affordable food.
According to Emirates News Agency, UN Secretary-General António Guterres highlighted that approximately 645 million people experienced hunger last year, with nearly 2.7 billion unable to afford a healthy diet. He emphasized that overlapping shocks and crises are exacerbating these issues by disrupting production and supply chains, inflating the cost of food and fertilizers, and making nutritious diets even less accessible for millions.
Guterres stressed the importance of utilizing existing knowledge, technology, and capabilities to address global hunger. He urged collaboration among scientists, researchers, innovators, farmers, Indigenous Peoples, and youth to develop solutions and mobilize financial resources, especially for developing countries, to make nutritious food more available and affordable.
World Food Day is observed annually on October 16, and this year's theme was 'Innovate Today. Nourish Tomorrow.'
