Abu Dhabi:The Urban Planning and Permits Centre (UPPC) at the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) has unveiled new 'Guidelines for Regulating Industrial Building Facades in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi'. These guidelines are designed to establish unified standards for the facades of industrial buildings that face streets and public spaces, aiming to enhance the urban landscape, improve facility safety, and accommodate sector-specific operational needs.
According to Wam, the guidelines outline standards for architectural appearance, maintenance, signage, entrances, service areas, and storage spaces, alongside safety and fire prevention requirements. They aim to improve the appearance of industrial areas, facilitate pedestrian movement, enhance the environment for workers and residents, and encourage the use of sustainable materials suited to the local climate.
Eng. Abdulla Mohamed Alblooshi, Director General of the UPPC, emphasized the significance of these guidelines in supporting Abu Dhabi's economy and improving the urban environment in industrial areas. The guidelines provide clear standards for property owners and investors to upgrade and maintain their building facades, beginning with the implementation in Mussafah.
The implementation under Administrative Resolution No. (48) of 2026 will initially cover industrial buildings in Mussafah and include various facilities such as workshops, warehouses, showrooms, logistics centers, and mixed-use industrial complexes. The guidelines offer a three-level improvement framework to account for differences in building conditions and activities.
The compliance process involves awareness-raising, advisory notices, formal notifications, and warnings, with opportunities for corrective action before follow-up inspections. Regulatory measures will be enforced for unresolved violations, with grievance and appeal procedures available. These guidelines aim to improve Abu Dhabi's urban landscape while ensuring safety, operational efficiency, and environmental quality in industrial areas.
