DR Congo Engages Russia in Talks to Expedite Ebola Vaccine Registration

Kinshasa:The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) is in discussions with Russia to fast-track the registration of a Russian-developed Ebola vaccine. This effort aims to aid in controlling the current outbreak, as confirmed by Health Minister Samuel Roger Kamba Mulamba.

According to Wam, Minister Kamba detailed the ongoing negotiations while attending the Russia-Africa Summit, where he addressed the Ebola crisis and the potential for meeting with vaccine specialists. The discussions are focused on completing the vaccine registration process and determining strategies for its deployment, given that the vaccine has not yet secured the required approvals.

Furthermore, Minister Kamba highlighted Russia's previous contributions to the DRC's healthcare sector, such as providing mobile laboratories during the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, researchers from Russia's Gamaleya National Research Centre for Epidemiology and Microbiology have reportedly conducted successful tests of a new Ebola vaccine on live virus samples.
