ABU DHABI: The Integrated Transport Centre of the Department of Municipalities and Transport in Abu Dhabi hosted a delegation from Shenzhen, China, to discuss advancements in transport digitalisation. The meeting aimed to strengthen Abu Dhabi's position as a global leader in smart transport and sustainability through collaboration with Shenzhen, a recognized pioneer in the field. According to Emirates News Agency, the delegation, led by Xu Wei, Deputy Director-General of the Shenzhen Transport Office, included directors from the Transport Office and representatives from the Shenzhen Urban Transport Planning Centre. The discussions focused on digital transformation strategies in both cities across land, maritime, and aviation sectors. The visit marked the launch of a digital transformation project for Abu Dhabi's public transport, part of a government-to-government partnership with Shenzhen. The project aims to enhance operational efficiency and service delivery using artificial intelligence and other cutting -edge technologies. The collaboration will also offer Emirati employees training in digital skills related to transport, aiming to improve user experience and reduce environmental impacts through sustainable transport solutions. These initiatives are part of the International Joint Transport Laboratory agreement between Abu Dhabi Mobility and the Shenzhen Urban Transport Planning Centre, signed in January 2024. During the visit, Abu Dhabi Mobility showcased its Green Bus Programme, featuring two electric buses manufactured in China, including an 18-metre articulated bus, a first in the Middle East. Xu Wei expressed his satisfaction with the programme's progress. Xu Wei provided an overview of Shenzhen's smart transport systems, which focus on facilitating digital transformation and providing sustainable transport solutions. He detailed the city's regulation of automated and connected vehicles and the management systems for drones and air transport infrastructure, highlighting efforts to enhance renewable e nergy efficiency. Abdulla Al Marzouqi, Director-General of Abu Dhabi Mobility, emphasized the importance of the collaboration, stating that working with Shenzhen will expedite Abu Dhabi's digital transformation journey. He expressed optimism about exploring new opportunities and strengthening ties between the two cities.
