Abu Dhabi:United Nations: Leaders from major artificial intelligence companies have called on the United Nations to implement safeguards for advanced AI systems to prevent the loss of human control over the technology.

According to Emirates News Agency, Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, expressed concerns that unmanaged AI could pose a risk to humanity. Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, also warned that humans might lose control over the future to AI.

In their address to the UN Security Council, the executives emphasized the need for effective safeguards and international standards to keep AI systems under human control. They cautioned against the concentration of AI power in the hands of a single company or country.

Furthermore, both Amodei and Altman acknowledged the potential benefits of AI. Altman noted that AI could enhance individual agency by providing greater opportunities for learning, creating, and participating.

UK Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband urged governments to heed these warnings, stating that the responsibility for preventing catastrophic outcomes should not be left solely to AI companies.
