Sharjah:Artificial intelligence is starting to transform how consumers shop, with AI now influencing 9% of customer transactions at Majid Al Futtaim. This was revealed by the company's CEO, Ahmed Galal Ismail, during the Sharjah Investment Forum 2026.
According to Emirates News Agency, Ismail shared that AI agents are becoming integral in recommending products and guiding purchasing decisions, marking a significant shift from earlier this year when AI had little to no role in transactions. This change highlights the increasing impact of technology on commerce and retail industries.
During the session titled "The Consumer of 2035," Ismail pointed out the evolving demands of consumers, driven by inflation and the desire for exceptional experiences and AI-enhanced shopping. He predicted that AI will play a role in most commercial transactions in the future, necessitating a change in business strategies.
Majid Al Futtaim's CEO also addressed the growing trend of online shopping, which accounts for 25% of their retail business, with particular growth in groceries and entertainment services delivered to homes. Despite this, he maintained that shopping malls remain vital due to the unique social and entertainment experiences they offer.
Additionally, Ismail spoke about the company's investment in AI-powered digital advertising through Precision Media, which utilizes apps and loyalty programs to deliver targeted ads. He also mentioned the development of quick delivery services capable of fulfilling orders in as little as 15 minutes.
Ismail emphasized the importance of trust in brand choice as AI increases transparency in pricing and products. He praised the UAE's strong institutional trust and AI adoption. Finally, he underscored the need for investment in human skills, data, algorithms, and AI to prepare for future consumer trends and build competitive businesses.
