BRICS Group Advocates for Palestine’s UN Admission, Calls for Ceasefire

KAZAN: The BRICS group has issued a call for the United Nations to admit the State of Palestine within the 1967 borders and urged for an immediate cessation of hostilities in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon. This announcement came during a meeting of BRICS leaders held in Kazan, Russia. According to Jordan News Agency, the leaders of the BRICS countries condemned Israeli attacks on civilian and humanitarian sites and infrastructure in Palestine. They urged for an immediate end to the ongoing hostilities in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon. The statement was part of the final communique released at the conclusion of the summit. The 16th BRICS summit commenced on Tuesday in Russia, drawing the participation of 24 heads of state and government. United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres was also present at the summit, which served as a platform for discussions on various international issues, including the situation in the Middle East.
