KAZAN: Leaders from the BRICS nations convened in Kazan, Russian Federation, for the XVI BRICS Summit from October 22 to 24, 2024, underscoring the need to bolster BRICS solidarity and cooperation based on mutual interests. The summit, themed "Strengthening Multilateralism for Just Global Development and Security," emphasized strategic partnerships and international collaboration. According to Emirates News Agency, the XVI BRICS Summit Kazan Declaration, released at the conclusion of the three-day gathering, reaffirmed the group's commitment to the Strategy for BRICS Economic Partnership 2025. The declaration highlighted the necessity of World Trade Organization (WTO) reforms, aiming to enhance the organization's resilience, authority, and effectiveness while promoting development and inclusivity. The BRICS leaders also reiterated their support for the State of Palestine's full membership in the United Nations, advocating for a two-state solution in accordance with international law, including relevant Unit ed Nations Security Council (UNSC) and General Assembly (UNGA) resolutions. They emphasized the establishment of a sovereign and independent State of Palestine with borders recognized as of June 1967, with East Jerusalem as the capital, coexisting peacefully with Israel. Expressing grave concern over the deteriorating humanitarian situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, the leaders noted the significant escalation of violence in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank due to Israeli military actions. They highlighted the resulting civilian casualties, forced displacement, and destruction of infrastructure, calling for urgent and uninterrupted humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.
