AMMAN: The Council of Ministers has sanctioned the tender for the development of the Sheikh Sabah Natural Gas Port, a coastal gasification unit designed to bolster energy security and diversify energy sources in Aqaba. The initiative, which is expected to cost $125 million, aims to enhance the infrastructure related to energy imports and support the diversification of energy options. According to Jordan News Agency, the Council has also extended the mandate of the Tax Settlement and Reconciliation Committee to accept settlement requests until the end of 2024 for tax claims due by December 31, 2023. Additionally, the Council has ratified recommendations to resolve tax issues for 25 companies and taxpayers. In a series of decisions, the Council approved several regulations under the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) framework. These include measures to improve public safety, environmental preservation, and the management of public facilities. The newly approved GAM law empowers the municipality to designate an d manage parks and forests, while the Nuisance Prevention Law for 2024 will enforce measures to protect public health. Further, the Council has endorsed the Slaughterhouse Regulation and Monitoring Law for 2024, which grants the municipality authority over slaughterhouse operations within its jurisdiction. The GAM Employees Housing Law for 2024 was also approved, establishing a housing fund for municipal employees to ensure suitable living conditions. Lastly, the Council authorized an agreement between the Department of Antiquities and the French Institute for the Near East to facilitate the processing of archives from French archaeological missions in Jerash.
