Department of Health – Abu Dhabi and WHOOP Announce Strategic Collaboration on Preventive Health Research

Abu Dhabi:The Department of Health - Abu Dhabi (DoH) and WHOOP have announced a strategic research collaboration to explore the role of continuous health insights in preventive health. This initiative aligns with Abu Dhabi's shift from reactive healthcare to personalized prevention on a large scale.

According to Wam, the memorandum of understanding was signed at the Abu Dhabi Future Health Summit in the presence of key figures including H.H. Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Mansoor Ibrahim Al Mansoori, Chairman of DoH. The collaboration, formalized by Dr. Noura Khamis Al Ghaithi and Jonathan Jeffrey, will focus on a phased research program on heart and metabolic health using wearable technology.

The initial study of the 24-month program will assess how continuous data and WHOOP coaching impact health markers such as weight and blood pressure in adults with obesity and hypertension over six months. The subsequent studies aim to explore the reduction of heart and metabolic disease risks by supporting necessary behavioral changes.

The collaboration seeks to integrate WHOOP's continuous health data into Abu Dhabi's intelligent health system to advance population health research. The initiative will strictly adhere to data governance guidelines, ensuring transparent and secure data handling in compliance with regulations and best practices.

Mansoor Ibrahim Al Mansoori emphasized the importance of recognizing early health signals and using AI to transform complex health data into actionable insights. Will Ahmed, CEO of WHOOP, highlighted the significance of this partnership, noting WHOOP's commitment to applying data insights to health challenges and the exciting potential of this collaboration with Abu Dhabi.
