CAIRO: The Arab Republic of Egypt today called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, providing urgent humanitarian aid and commencing immediate reconstruction efforts. In a statement issued by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the International Day of Peace, Egypt emphasised the necessity of achieving a comprehensive and just peace in the Middle East, including establishing an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital. The statement also highlighted the importance of reaching a comprehensive settlement that ensures lasting peace in the region, pointing to Egypt's leading role in mediating to stop the aggression on Gaza. It stressed that achieving comprehensive peace in the Middle East can only be accomplished by respecting the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, including their right to self-determination, under international principles and laws.
