CAIRO: Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt's firm rejection of any violations of Lebanon's sovereignty, highlighting the seriousness of Israel's ground incursion into southern Lebanon. Abdelatty made these remarks during a phone call on Monday with UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy, where he called for an immediate ceasefire in both Lebanon and Gaza. Abdelatty discussed with Lammy the rapidly escalating, dangerous situation in the region to prevent sliding into a regional war, according to a statement from the foreign ministry. Moreover, Egypt's top diplomat called for international efforts to contain the situation and halt Israel's escalation, highlighting the necessity of implementing United Nations Security Council (UNSC) Resolution 1701 by all parties. On Gaza, FM Abdelatty condemned the ongoing Israeli attacks in the Palestinian strip and the West Bank, reiterating the importance of a ceasefire in Gaza. He emphasised the need to pressure Israel to allow humanitarian a id and relief assistance into the strip. He also reiterated Egypt's persistent rejection of the continued Israeli military presence along the Philadelphi corridor and on the Palestinian side of the Rafah crossing.
