Brussels:The European Union is prepared to send an Election Observation Mission for the upcoming Palestinian legislative elections scheduled for November 28.
According to Emirates News Agency, Kaja Kallas, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, announced that the deployment of the mission was part of her recent discussions with Palestinian Vice-President Hussein Al-Sheikh. Kallas emphasized the importance of Palestinians having the opportunity to elect their representatives through elections that are credible, inclusive, and transparent.
This election marks the first parliamentary vote in nearly 20 years, providing a crucial chance to renew the legitimacy of Palestinian institutions. The elections are set to take place in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas established November 28 as the date for the legislative elections in a decree issued last July. The Central Elections Commission is actively preparing for the event, with the candidate nomination period from September 26 to October 7 and electoral campaigning starting on November 6.
