EWEC and ADNEC Partner to Power Abu Dhabi Event Venue with Clean Energy

ABU DHABI: Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC) has announced a strategic partnership with ADNEC Group to power the ADNEC Centre Abu Dhabi entirely with renewable and clean energy. This initiative positions the venue as the first and largest event space in the Middle East to fully utilize clean energy, setting a precedent for the decarbonization of the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) sector across the UAE. According to Emirates News Agency, the agreement was signed at the ADNEC Centre Abu Dhabi by Othman Al Ali, CEO of EWEC, and Humaid Matar Al Dhaheri, Managing Director and Group CEO of ADNEC Group. The signing was witnessed by representatives from both organizations, signifying the importance of this collaboration. Through this partnership, ADNEC Centre Abu Dhabi will source 100 percent of its grid power from EWEC's renewable and clean energy resources, confirmed through Clean Energy Certificates issued by the Abu Dhabi Department of Energy. This alliance is expected to substantially reduce carbon emissions associated with major exhibitions and events hosted at the ADNEC Centre, bolstering ADNEC Group's status as a leader in sustainable event management on a global scale. Othman Al Ali expressed satisfaction with the partnership, noting that it supports EWEC's mission to enhance renewable energy adoption in the UAE, thereby facilitating organizations in reducing their Scope 2 emissions. He emphasized that this collaboration aligns with the UAE's clean energy transition goals and establishes a model for decarbonizing international events in Abu Dhabi. Humaid Matar Al Dhaheri highlighted that the partnership underscores ADNEC Group's commitment to sustainability and the UAE's national development targets. By decarbonizing the grid power consumption of the ADNEC Centre, the group aims to set a new standard for sustainability within the UAE's business tourism industry, reinforcing Abu Dhabi's reputation as a hub for sustainable events and exhibitions in the region.
