FIA Formula One United States Grand Prix Begins in Austin with V8 Engine Plans

Austin:The FIA Formula One United States Grand Prix began on Friday evening at the Circuit of The Americas in Austin, Texas. This event marks the 18th round of the 2026 FIA Formula One World Championship, which will conclude next month with the Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

According to Wam, the three-day event, which will run until October 25, gathers leading international drivers and teams. Mohammed Ben Sulayem, President of the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), announced that the governing body is collaborating with Formula One Management (FOM), teams, and power unit manufacturers to reintroduce V8 engines to the championship.

Ben Sulayem, who is attending the United States Grand Prix, emphasized his experience as a driver and his intention to meet motorsport fans' expectations as the driving force behind this initiative. He believes that reintroducing V8 engines will bring a thrilling new era to Formula One, which he views as the pinnacle of global motorsport.

The FIA President is aiming for a Formula One debut in the 2030s with significant weight savings of approximately 80 kilograms. Research and development, along with engine costs, are expected to be reduced by at least 50 percent. Ben Sulayem stated that reducing car weight and reintroducing the V8 factor is crucial to enhancing drivers' experiences.

Additionally, progress towards the V8 reintroduction reflects a new understanding between the FIA and FOM, highlighting their shared commitment to building a new golden era for the FIA Formula One World Championship. The relationship was reinforced by the signing of the Concorde Governance Agreement last December, which defines the regulatory framework and governance terms of the championship until 2030.
