AMMAN: The High Steering Committee for the Fils Al Reef program has approved funding for the electrification of 234 new sites, including homes and economic centers, with a total investment of JD624,000. This initiative, under the aegis of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, aims to extend electricity services to underserved areas through the additional charge imposed on household electricity consumption. According to Jordan News Agency, the decision was made during the committee's meeting on Wednesday, where the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Dr. Saleh Kharabsheh, detailed the beneficiaries of this expansion. The targeted sites include various population centers and zones of economic activity that are currently beyond the reach of regular electricity grids. Dr. Kharabsheh, who also presides over the committee, emphasized that the initiative follows recent amendments aimed at improving the framework for distributing electricity funded by the Fils Al Reef fee. Hisham Momani, the Director of the Ministry's Rural Electrification Directorate, further explained the distribution of the funds. He noted that the allocations include JD141,000 for electrifying five residential areas situated outside municipal boundaries, JD173,000 for powering three remote house blocks, and JD75,000 for connecting distant individual houses to existing grids. Additionally, underprivileged households within municipal boundaries in concession areas of electricity companies will receive support costing JD18,000. This substantial financial commitment underscores the government's ongoing efforts to ensure equitable access to essential services across Jordan, particularly in remote and rural areas.
