Dubai: flydubai has announced the launch of direct flights to Benghazi in Libya, becoming the first UAE carrier to operate direct services between Dubai and Benghazi Benina International Airport (BEN). Flights will commence on 17th June 2026 from Terminal 3 at Dubai International (DXB). The new route aims to enhance connectivity between the UAE and Libya, providing passengers from Benghazi with seamless access to flydubai's expanding network through Dubai's aviation hub.
According to Emirates News Agency, Ghaith Al Ghaith, Chief Executive Officer at flydubai, stated, "The launch of our new operations to Libya marks another milestone in our network expansion strategy and reinforces our commitment to opening underserved markets and establishing new air links between countries." He also highlighted that flydubai has been scaling up operations with a focus on adding new routes and frequencies as travel demand increases. By summer 2026, the airline's network is expected to grow to over 100 destinations.
With the introduction of flights to Benghazi, flydubai's network in East and North Africa now includes 13 destinations. Sudhir Sreedharan, Divisional Senior Vice President of Commercial Operations at flydubai, expressed satisfaction with the expansion into Africa, stating, "We are pleased to announce the launch of flights to Benghazi, further expanding our network in Africa."
In recent weeks, flydubai has resumed operations to most destinations within its network, including regions in the GCC and the Middle East, as well as selected locations in Europe and Russia. The airline plans to restart services to seasonal summer destinations, such as Bodrum, Dubrovnik, Mykonos, Santorini, and Tivat, beginning 22nd May 2026.
