Abu dhabi: The inaugural edition of Frieze Abu Dhabi is set to take place from 19th to 22nd November at Manarat Al Saadiyat. This event will bring together 84 galleries from 63 cities and 36 countries, further establishing Abu Dhabi as a global destination for art and culture.
According to Emirates News Agency, Frieze Abu Dhabi is organized in partnership with the Department of Culture and Tourism - Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi). It builds on Abu Dhabi Art's 17 years of fostering community among artists, galleries, collectors, and institutions in the region. The event will showcase works that span from antiquity through the 20th century to contemporary times, featuring prominent regional and international galleries such as Gagosian, Pace Gallery, Thaddaeus Ropac, and Timothy Taylor, along with galleries from the UAE and surrounding areas.
Frieze Abu Dhabi will have four main sections: Galleries, the main section; Focus, which is dedicated to younger international galleries; Frieze Masters Abu Dhabi, which explores cultural exchange across the Indian Ocean; and Global Futures, presenting solo exhibitions by artists from various generations and geographies.
The broader program will also see the debut of the Frieze Abu Dhabi Artist Award, Frieze Sculpture, and In Dialogue, alongside a variety of curated talks that will delve into topics such as collecting, the institutional landscape, and artistic practices.
The fair is part of the expanding cultural landscape of Saadiyat Cultural District, which includes prominent cultural institutions like the Louvre Abu Dhabi, Zayed National Museum, and the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, the latter of which is scheduled to open in December.
