Future Health Initiative Releases Abu Dhabi Blueprint for Next-Gen Therapeutics

Abu Dhabi:Future Health, a global initiative by Abu Dhabi, has unveiled a new white paper detailing a comprehensive plan to enhance the translation of next-generation therapeutics into patient care within the Emirate. The white paper, a collaboration with Strategyand Middle East, part of the PwC network, outlines four strategic priorities aimed at leveraging Abu Dhabi's capabilities in genomics, health data, clinical research, regulation, and specialist care.

According to Wam, the white paper, titled "The Future of Therapeutics How Abu Dhabi can help translate the next generation of science into patient care," explores how scientific advances in health and life sciences can be effectively developed, validated, and delivered as therapies. It emphasizes Abu Dhabi's growing proficiency in areas such as population genomics, biobanking, and clinical research, proposing a focused approach to therapeutic development.

The paper presents an analysis by Strategyand, which forecasts that traditional therapeutic markets, including small-molecule and antibody-based medicines, will continue to dominate through 2033. However, it predicts substantial growth for cell and gene therapies, as well as RNA/DNA therapeutics, highlighting the importance of a selective, disease-led strategy in building therapeutic capabilities.

The document also discusses the role of genomics, multi-omics, and artificial intelligence in advancing disease understanding and identifying specific patient groups. It notes that therapies based on human genetic evidence have a higher success rate in clinical development. The white paper suggests that these precise therapies will necessitate new trial designs, specialized clinical infrastructure, and ongoing evidence collection post-treatment.

Dr. Noura Khamis Al Ghaithi, Undersecretary of the Department of Health - Abu Dhabi, emphasized the need to translate scientific advancements into meaningful patient outcomes, citing Abu Dhabi's strong foundation in genomics and health data as key assets. Irfan Merali of Strategyand Middle East highlighted the opportunity for Abu Dhabi to attract companies working in advanced therapeutics by building on its strengths in health data and clinical research.

The white paper identifies four priority areas for development expanding precision clinical trials, creating managed-access pathways, deepening therapeutic capabilities, and ensuring long-term patient outcomes inform future clinical practices. This publication is part of Future Health's Abu Dhabi Blueprints series, aiming to shape the future of health through research and practical approaches.
