ABU DHABI: H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in the Al Dhafra Region and Chairman of the Emirates Red Crescent (ERC), emphasized the organization's commitment to the UAE's humanitarian vision during a recent Board of Directors meeting. The ERC's initiatives in the "Year of Sustainability" reflect the UAE's dedication to promoting global solidarity and offering aid, especially under the leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. According to Emirates News Agency, Sheikh Hamdan highlighted the ERC's strategic initiatives since the beginning of the year, which align with the Year of Sustainability's objectives. These efforts aim to enhance the UAE's humanitarian and developmental influence worldwide. The meeting, held at Al Nakheel Palace, saw Sheikh Hamdan convey the leadership's appreciation for the ERC's contributions in relief and development, particularly in conflict and disaster-hit areas such as Gaza and Lebanon. The Board reviewed reports of th e ERC's accomplishments, including 562,950 development projects in 152 countries. These projects span across various continents, with a focus on Asia, Africa, Europe, the Americas, and Oceania. The Board also examined local initiatives amounting to AED110.6 million, benefiting 1.3 million people across the UAE this year. The ERC's recent relief efforts were also discussed, such as the "UAE stands with Lebanon" campaign, which amassed 1,100 tonnes of aid and AED93.1 million in financial support. The program aiding Syrians post-earthquake cost AED288.9 million, assisting 6.9 million people, while support for Palestinians in Gaza since October last year totaled AED180.6 million, benefiting over 9 million individuals. Additionally, the Board assessed the progress of the Nahr Al Hayat Fund, aimed at providing healthcare to children with critical illnesses. To date, the fund has supported 1,010 children at a cost of AED2.5 million.
