Investment Agreements to Tap Copper Ore Resources Outside Dana Region Announced by Jordanian Minister

AMMAN: In a significant development aimed at tapping new mineral resources, Jordan's Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Dr. Saleh Kharabsheh, announced that the government is set to sign several investment agreements for copper ore exploration outside the Dana area. According to Jordan News Agency, Dr. Kharabsheh made the announcement during a dialogue at the Jordanian Strategy Forum, where he discussed the financial reform plan for Jordan's electricity sector under the Economic Modernization Vision (EMV). The minister emphasized the discovery of copper ore in new areas as a promising opportunity for the mining sector and outlined the government's commitment to securing these investments soon. Dr. Kharabsheh also highlighted the ongoing efforts to reform the Kingdom's electricity sector, aiming to achieve financial justice among all stakeholders. This reform is part of the broader Economic Modernization Vision, which seeks to sustain the sector's development and enhance its role in economic growth. T he minister stressed the importance of investments in the energy sector, noting that they must yield reasonable financial profits to ensure long-term sustainability. The minister also provided updates on various initiatives, including the project to expand natural gas delivery to Jordan's industrial areas and the progress in green hydrogen strategy legislation. He mentioned that 27% of Jordan's electricity is now generated from renewable sources. Furthermore, the upcoming electricity storage project using hydroelectric power at Mujib Dam, with a capacity of up to 450 megawatts, underscores the government's efforts to boost the nation's energy infrastructure and meet increasing energy demands.
