RAMALLAH: The Palestinian Prisoner's Society (PPS) and the Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs Commission said that the occupation authorities issued new and renewed administrative detention orders against 20 Palestinian detainees, including three females. PPS and the Commission, in a statement issued on Monday, published the names of detainees who received new and renewed detention orders, without charge or trial. The period of detention varied between four to six months. The detainees included two female university students and a female engineer. Israel's widely condemned policy of administrative detention allows the detention of Palestinians without charge or trial for renewable intervals usually ranging between three and six months based on undisclosed evidence that even a detainee's lawyer is barred from viewing. 'Israel's use of administrative detention blatantly violates the restrictions of international law. Israel carries it out in a highly classified manner that denies detainees the possibility o f mounting a proper defense,' says the Israeli human rights group B'Tselem.
