Jawaher Al Qasimi and Sultan bin Ahmed Engage with ICRC on Global Humanitarian Strategies

GENEVA: H.H. Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi and H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi convened with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Geneva to advance discussions on humanitarian strategies. The meeting focused on enhancing global readiness to address escalating humanitarian crises, emphasizing the need for comprehensive programs and sustainable interventions to mitigate the long-term impacts of conflicts. According to Emirates News Agency, Sheikha Jawaher, who is a prominent advocate for refugee children at the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and Chairperson of The Big Heart Foundation, highlighted the importance of formulating strategic frameworks for humanitarian organizations. She emphasized that emergency response programs, while essential, are insufficient on their own, as the repercussions of crises can extend far beyond their immediate impacts. She addressed the necessity of healthcare, education, and psychological support in facilitating societal recovery. The meeting reviewed the collaborative efforts between The Big Heart Foundation and ICRC, underscoring their commitment to humanitarian causes. Pierre Krähenbhl, Director-General of ICRC, provided insights into the organization's operational strategies and challenges in delivering emergency assistance in regions like Palestine, Lebanon, and Sudan. Discussions also explored the international protection required for humanitarian workers, with Sheikha Jawaher underscoring the inviolability of humanitarian missions as per international treaties. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi reiterated the need for reinforced local and international partnerships, highlighting the enduring effects of humanitarian crises on global communities. He advocated for sustainable projects to aid in the revival of affected regions, where infrastructure and essential services have been severely disrupted. In addition to the meeting, Sheikha Jawaher and Sheikh Sultan visited the International Committee of the Red Cross Museum in Geneva. The museum, which chronicles the history of humanitarian efforts and the contributions of Red Cross and Red Crescent volunteers, provided a poignant reflection on the ongoing mission to alleviate human suffering.
