NEW YORK: Jordan took part in the sixth meeting of the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Focal Points Network, held on October 21-22 in collaboration with UN Women. The event convened representatives from 103 countries to discuss the activation of Security Council Resolution 1325, which focuses on women, peace, and security. According to Jordan News Agency, the Jordanian delegation was led by Maha Ali, Secretary-General of the Jordanian National Commission for Women (JNCW), along with the Director of Women's Affairs in the Jordan Armed Forces and the Commander of the Women's Police. They met with Jordan's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Mahmoud Al-Hmoud, to discuss national and international strategies. The meeting served as a platform for countries to share their experiences in crafting and executing national plans, addressing the hurdles encountered during implementation. Discussions also covered innovative areas being integrated into national plans, such as climate change, crisis response, food security, and cyber-security, all examined through the lens of their impact on women. The dialogue highlighted the necessity of reinforcing women's roles in decision-making processes in these sectors. Maha Ali stressed the critical need to bolster the protective measures for women within the WPS Agenda. She also underscored the importance of addressing the challenges faced by women in conflict zones and the needs of refugees in countries that host them.
