Mohammed bin Rashid Delivers Message Marking 80th Anniversary of United Nations

Dubai: His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, delivered a recorded message marking the 80th anniversary of the United Nations. His Highness emphasized the historical significance of the occasion, highlighting the ongoing global challenges that necessitate a renewed commitment to the principles and values enshrined in the UN Charter to maintain its crucial role in upholding peace and security.

According to Emirates News Agency, H.H. Sheikh Mohammed noted the United Arab Emirates' consistent foreign policy since its founding, which is based on dialogue and understanding, with a foundation in tolerance and peaceful coexistence. He emphasized the UAE's support for sustainable development in various fields, and its active role in providing humanitarian assistance, combating terrorism, and countering hate speech and extremism. He reiterated that the United Nations, established eight decades ago to safeguard humanity's right to peace, justice, and dignity, must renew its commitment to these principles to remain effective for the coming eighty years.

The UAE became a member of the United Nations in 1971, shortly after its formation, and has served as a UN Security Council member during the 1986-1987 term and again in 2022-2023. The United Nations, founded in 1945 after World War II, is dedicated to preventing conflict, maintaining international peace and security, promoting sustainable development, upholding human rights, and providing humanitarian aid. It is headquartered in New York and represents 193 Member States, guided by its Charter, which enshrines their shared principles and objectives.
