Dubai: The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MoHESR) has partnered with the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) to enhance their scholarship programme for Emirati students, aiming to align it closely with the UAE’s national priorities. This collaboration is designed to equip students with advanced knowledge and skills, ensuring their readiness to meet labour market demands and excel in their respective careers post-graduation.
According to Emirates News Agency, the partnership seeks to deliver high-quality education in critical sectors, ensure a seamless transition from education to employment, and align workforce needs with the scholarship programme. Additionally, it aims to strengthen partnerships between the government, employers, and higher education institutions to boost the job prospects of students. The agreement was formalised at DEWA’s headquarters in Dubai, with Dr. Abdulrahman Al Awar, Minister of Human Resources and Emiratisation and Acting Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA, signing the accord in the presence of senior officials from both organisations.
Dr. Abdulrahman Abdulmannan Al Awar highlighted that the agreement marks a pivotal step in preparing Emirati youth for global labour market shifts by facilitating advanced education at leading international universities, aligned with national business needs. He affirmed that the partnership with DEWA would bolster the national talent pool, enhance the UAE’s global competitiveness, and support sustainable development. The Ministry remains committed to improving the scholarship programme’s efficiency by focusing on strategic sectors and fostering public-private partnerships to ensure students receive quality education and are well-prepared for future workforce demands.
Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer expressed pride in the collaboration, stating that DEWA’s strategy focuses on the development and training of national cadres in line with the vision and directives of the UAE’s leadership. He emphasized DEWA’s commitment to providing necessary support and guidance to Emirati students, enabling them to achieve their academic and professional goals. DEWA will continuously seek Emirati professionals in relevant fields and provide practical training aligned with job market needs, ensuring the employment of scholarship students after graduation, thereby enhancing the UAE’s reputation as a hub of excellence and innovation.
The Cooperation Agreement aims to establish mutual collaboration to support the scholarship programme by providing outstanding educational opportunities for Emirati students in strategic areas consistent with the job market’s priorities and needs. It focuses on four key areas: offering high-quality educational experiences in sectors relevant to national priorities, facilitating a smooth transition from education to employment, addressing workforce needs through the scholarship programme, and strengthening cooperation between the Government, employers, and higher education institutions to increase students’ employment opportunities.
Under the agreement, MoHESR will allocate scholarships for Emirati students abroad, concentrating on fields aligned with national priorities. DEWA will provide professional guidance, training opportunities, and ensure employment for scholarship students within the Authority or its affiliated entities upon graduation.
