KUALA LUMPUR: The Secretary-General of the Muslim Council of Elders, Judge Mohamed Abdelsalam, engaged in discussions with Malaysia's Prime Minister, Anwar Ibrahim, focusing on strengthening cooperation to promote dialogue, tolerance, and coexistence among diverse religious and cultural groups. The discussions also addressed the broader challenges confronting the Muslim world today. According to Emirates News Agency, Judge Abdelsalam underscored the influential role of the Muslim Council of Elders in facilitating dialogue both within the Islamic community and with other religions to bolster peace and mutual understanding. He articulated the Council's dedication to connecting with Muslims globally to comprehend their pressing issues and draw insights from historical experiences to foster civil peace and societal harmony. Judge Abdelsalam lauded Malaysia as a leading exemplar of diversity and plurality while upholding Islamic values, especially amid the country's ongoing development across various sectors. Pr ime Minister Anwar Ibrahim emphasized the necessity of strengthening unity within the Muslim community to tackle shared challenges. He conveyed his and the Malaysian people's gratitude for the recent official visit by Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar and Chairman of the Muslim Council of Elders, whose keynote address at the Malaysian Scholars and Youth Council highlighted the importance of moderation within the Ummah. The Prime Minister expressed his anticipation for future discussions with the Grand Imam to further address key challenges facing the Muslim world.
