Muslim Council of Elders Denounces Israeli Plan to Seize UNRWA Headquarters

Dubai: The Muslim Council of Elders, chaired by His Eminence Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, has issued a strong condemnation of Israel's recent decision to confiscate the headquarters of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in East Jerusalem. The council described the move as a severe threat to the historical and legal status of the Occupied Palestinian Territories. According to Emirates News Agency, the Council's statement highlighted the critical role of UNRWA in supporting the Palestinian people amidst ongoing humanitarian challenges brought about by the prolonged Israeli occupation. The statement emphasized the Council's staunch opposition to any actions that compromise the safety of humanitarian facilities and their staff. Furthermore, the Muslim Council of Elders called upon the international community and relevant entities to consolidate efforts towards establishing a ceasefire in conflict zones such as the Gaza Strip and Lebanon. The Council also urged for an end to illegal activities that obstruct the realization of a two-state solution and the formation of an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.
