Gaza: A new mass polio vaccination campaign by UNRWA began in Gaza on Saturday, to inoculate nearly 600,000 children in the Gaza Strip.
According to Emirates News Agency, UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini announced the launch of the large-scale vaccination initiative. "Another large scale vaccination campaign against polio started today," stated Lazzarini. The campaign aims to immunize children under the age of 10, with a target to reach nearly 600,000 young residents across the region.
Lazzarini highlighted the extensive resources allocated for the campaign, mentioning that "over 1,700 UNRWA team members will take part in this campaign across our health centres and mobile points." This effort is a continuation of previous rounds of vaccinations, conducted in collaboration with various partners, to ensure comprehensive coverage and protection against polio.
In related developments, the situation in Gaza remains tense as the bodies of 10 people were recovered from under rubble in the past 48 hours. Additionally, in the Jenin camp located in the northern West Bank, Israeli forces have cordoned off several houses with barbed wire, escalating tensions in the area.
