Rashed Al Mulla Leads Freestyle World Championship After Shanghai Victory

Shanghai:Rashed Al Mulla of Team Abu Dhabi has taken the lead in the UIM-ABP Aquabike World Championship Freestyle category with 50 points, following a standout performance at the Shanghai Grand Prix, the opening round of the 2026 World Championship.

According to Emirates News Agency, Al Mulla secured maximum points during the Shanghai campaign, showcasing his skill in a category where he has been a top contender for several years. His victory in Shanghai puts him in a favorable position in the championship race, with only the final round remaining.

Al Mulla began the event by leading the Freestyle qualifying session and delivered an impressive performance in Moto 1, which featured complex maneuvers and consecutive backflips. His routine earned him 227 points from the judges, granting him first place and 25 championship points.

On the final day, Al Mulla demonstrated his prowess once more with a spectacular freestyle routine, earning him another 25 points and bringing his total to 50. This achievement places him at the top of the World Championship standings.

Al Mulla expressed his satisfaction with the results in Shanghai, emphasizing the importance of taking the lead in the championship. He acknowledged the support from the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club, crediting the management and technical teams for their crucial role in his international success.

Having previously won world titles in 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2024, Al Mulla finished the 2025 season as runner-up. He now aims for his seventh world championship title.

The altered 2026 calendar, with cancellations of the Doha and Jeddah rounds, means the championship will be decided over two rounds Shanghai and Olbia. Each point is vital in determining the world champion.

Following his success in Shanghai, Al Mulla will focus on the final round in Olbia, Sardinia, from October 16 to 18, where the 2026 world champions will be decided.
