FRANKFURT: The Sharjah Book Authority (SBA) has made significant strides in expanding its global publishing partnerships, conducting 37 high-level meetings with leading figures in the publishing industry during the 76th Frankfurt International Book Fair. These efforts align with the authority's mission to elevate Sharjah's cultural status on the world stage. According to Emirates News Agency, the SBA, leading a delegation of key cultural institutions from the emirate, showcased opportunities at the upcoming 43rd Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF). This resulted in commitments from prominent European and international publishers to participate. The authority highlighted Sharjah's longstanding cultural project, envisioned by H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, which positions the emirate and the UAE as a cultural hub in global publishing and creative industries. The Frankfurt Book Fair, featuring over 7,500 participants from more than 100 countries, hosted over 4,000 events and attracted more t han 280,000 visitors. During this event, the SBA engaged with publishers such as Barefoot Books, Penguin Random House, Supadu, Ingram, and Harper. Additional discussions were held with entities like Andrews McMeel, the Spanish Publishers Association, Macmillan US, and New York University. The meetings resulted in commitments from European and international publishers to participate in the SIBF. Discussions focused on opportunities presented by SBA's conferences and initiatives, including the Sharjah Publishers Conference and Sharjah International Library Conference. The SBA also emphasized opportunities for buying and selling publishing rights and increasing translation exchanges. Ahmed bin Rakkad Al Ameri, CEO of SBA, noted the emirate's consistent efforts under the leadership of H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi to promote Emirati and Arab culture globally. He highlighted the achievement of securing participation from leading international publishers in the 43rd SIBF. Al Ameri also emphasized strategic engagements under the guidance of Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairperson of SBA, aimed at strengthening partnerships and fostering a knowledge-based society.
