Sharjah Commits AED1.2 Billion to Development Projects in Eastern and Central Regions

Sharjah:Sharjah is implementing development projects valued at more than AED1.2 billion across its Eastern and Central regions by 2026. These projects include the construction of schools, sports facilities, government buildings, tourism sites, and public parks.

According to Emirates News Agency, the Sharjah Department of Public Works (SDPW) is spearheading these initiatives, with over AED834 million allocated to the Eastern Region and more than AED386 million to the Central Region. These figures encompass both ongoing projects and those already completed, as part of a program directed by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, aiming to improve infrastructure and enhance the quality of life in the emirate.

In the Eastern Region, Kalba accounts for approximately AED618 million. Notable projects include the second phase of Victoria International School in Kalba, completed at a cost of AED184 million, and extensions to government buildings along the waterfront, valued at AED185 million. A sports complex at the University of Kalba is under development for AED110 million and will feature semi-Olympic swimming pools, training facilities, a football pitch, and a running track. Additionally, the Kalba Club for the Disabled is 76 percent complete, with a budget of AED77 million, and the Rock Art Centre, valued at AED38 million, is 46 percent complete.

Khorfakkan is receiving around AED188 million, with its largest project, the AED140 million second phase of Victoria International School, already handed over. Other completed projects include a new nursery in Al Luluyah Neighbourhood, while construction continues on a civil defence centre and additional public facilities.

Dibba Al Hisn's community projects are valued at just over AED29 million, including a nursery and waterfront amenities at Sharjah Ladies Club's beach park.

In the Central Region, education projects amount to AED312 million. The largest is Victoria International School in Al Dhaid, costing AED184 million. The University of Al Dhaid will feature an AED84 million theatre with 1,000 seats, alongside a mosque constructed for AED42 million. Additional investments include an AED32 million equestrian club in Mleiha, part of AED49 million dedicated to sports and service projects, plus a civil defence building and a camel market under construction. Development of parks and green spaces is set to exceed AED25 million.

Eng. Abdullah Al Tunaiji, Director of Branches at SDPW, stated that these projects are part of the department's strategy to expand public facilities in response to Sharjah's growing population. The department is collaborating with relevant authorities to ensure timely delivery, adherence to quality standards, and improved efficiency of government facilities.
