Sharjah: His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has issued an Emiri Decree for the establishment and organisation of the 'Child Safety' institution in the Emirate.
According to Emirates News Agency, the decree mandates the formation of a social institution named 'Child Safety,' which will possess legal authority to execute necessary actions to fulfill its objectives. The institution will operate under the supervision of the Sharjah Family and Community Council.
H.H. Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi will chair the Foundation, with the authority to appoint personnel as necessary for managing the Foundation and its associated entities. The Foundation's headquarters will be located in Sharjah, and the Chairperson has the discretion to establish branches in other regions of the Emirate.
The primary mission of the Foundation is to bolster Sharjah's standing as a leader in child protection by collaborating with pertinent authorities. It aims to raise awareness about child safety, promote children's social and psychological well-being, and strengthen institutional partnerships locally and internationally. The Foundation also seeks to uphold children's rights, ensuring they are heard, secure, and protected from harm.
To achieve these aims, the Foundation is empowered to develop policies, strategic plans, and child safety programs. It will provide recommendations to authorities on child protection legislation and offer comprehensive services for children affected by violence and abuse. Coordination with Sharjah authorities regarding cases referred to the Kanaf Child Centre is also a key responsibility, ensuring proper treatment and reintegration for affected children.
The Foundation will also focus on training multidisciplinary teams and conducting workshops on child safety for professionals, caregivers, and parents. Hosting international experts to review and develop local child protection procedures is part of its agenda. Additionally, the Foundation may enter agreements and partnerships related to child safety and seek support from specialised entities within the Emirate.
A social centre named "Kanaf Child Centre" will be established under the Foundation to provide integrated legal, psychological, and social support to children experiencing violence and abuse. The centre will also perform forensic medical examinations to document cases of abuse.
The Foundation's financial resources will include government allocations, self-generated revenues, investment proceeds, sponsorships, and other approved resources, all subject to the Chairperson's approval for specified purposes.
