TRENDS Group Symposium Explores Future of Education in AI Age

Rabat: TRENDS Group, through its Morocco Virtual Office, organised a symposium titled 'Education in the Age of Artificial Intelligence: Promising Opportunities or Ethical Challenges?' as part of the intellectual and research programme accompanying its participation in the 2026 Rabat International Publishing and Book Fair. The symposium brought together academics, experts, and researchers to discuss the future of education in light of rapid advances in artificial intelligence (AI).

According to Emirates News Agency, Mohamed Al Ahmed, a researcher at TRENDS Research and Advisory, opened the event by highlighting the intersection of the knowledge revolution and the algorithmic revolution. He noted the evolving roles of teachers and learners, increasingly linked to the capabilities of intelligent machines. Al Ahmed pointed out that AI has transitioned from a supporting technical tool to a significant force in shaping curriculum design, personalised learning, performance assessment, and even thought patterns.

Al Ahmed emphasized that the real challenge is not the machine's learning ability but humanity's capacity to redefine learning. Education, he argued, is about more than transferring knowledge; it involves building personalities capable of critical thinking, creativity, and decision-making. He added that the future of education will rely on using AI within a clear ethical and human framework, allowing it to become a strong partner in developing more aware and creative generations.

Dr. Moulay Ahmed Saber, a Moroccan writer and researcher, reiterated the broad reach of AI across various sectors, including the economy, education, and human relationships. He noted the widespread collective engagement with digital platforms and social media as evidence of AI's pervasive influence.

Dr. Younes Al Wakili, Professor of Sociology and Anthropology at Mohammed V University in Rabat, stated that AI's use in education is no longer theoretical but a practical reality. He referenced the concept of 'augmented intelligence,' which merges human thinking with machine capabilities to support vital sectors, including scientific research.

Dr. Abderrahman Mazuane, a researcher and trainer in information technology and educational sciences, stressed the importance of engaging with AI in education amid the growing role of machines and their increasing ability to provide answers in various fields. He noted that the AI revolution has led to significant transformations in teaching and learning methods.
