Abu Dhabi:Authorities have successfully prevented 14 attempts to smuggle more than 300 kilograms of narcotics through transit areas at airports across the country. This achievement was made possible by the collaboration between the National Anti-Narcotics Agency and the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security, represented by the General Directorate of Port Security.
According to Emirates News Agency, the operations were bolstered by the integration of national efforts and international intelligence cooperation. This collaboration allowed for the apprehension of several smugglers from various European and Asian countries. Intelligence on suspicious consignments and travel routes was shared in advance, enabling authorities to monitor these consignments before their arrival in the UAE.
Furthermore, UAE Customs highlighted the deployment of advanced detection systems and smart screening technologies, which can identify concealed substances with high accuracy and speed. These technologies have improved detection rates and reduced inspection times, minimizing the need for manual checks.
The consistent cooperation between national and international authorities has enhanced the ability to analyze flight routes and consignments, allowing for early detection of suspicious activities. This proactive monitoring ensures that specialist teams at ports of entry are prepared to take immediate action upon the arrival of flagged consignments.
The National Anti-Narcotics Agency emphasized the importance of advanced data analytics in identifying unusual patterns in consignment movements. By focusing resources on high-risk targets, the UAE is effectively combating cross-border crime and preventing the country from being exploited as a transit point for narcotics trafficking. These efforts are part of a broader strategy to protect communities from drug-related harm.
